Niclas Füllkrug was one of the goalscorers in the 5-0 win against Hungary. The goalscorer was injured in the top match of the Nations League against the Netherlands. The national coach had to re-plan.
After missing the German national football team’s top match in the Nations League against the Netherlands due to injury, striker Niclas Füllkrug has to take a short break. “It’s nothing serious. Unfortunately, the area is a bit problematic because it’s the transition to the Achilles tendon at the bottom of the calf. If something were to happen, it would be a long-term problem. That’s why we said: We’re not taking any risks,” said national coach Julian Nagelsmann on TV channel RTL before the match against Oranje in the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Füllkrug has already returned to London to join his club West Ham United. “He will have to take a few days off. He will not play in the Premier League at the weekend,” added Nagelsmann.
Füllkrug was in the starting eleven in the 5-0 win against Hungary at the start of the Nations League last Saturday in Düsseldorf and scored the opening goal. It was his 14th goal in 22 international matches. During the follow-up training session on Monday evening in the arena in Amsterdam, he tried training with a blue tape on his lower leg, but stopped early.
Deniz Undav was named in the starting eleven instead of Füllkrug against the Dutch. This is the Stuttgart player’s fourth international match and the first time he has been allowed to play from the start.
