Another irreverent Spanish comedy that borders on black humour but in a subtle and measured way. Mostly set in the workplace.

The Spanish film The Boss It was released in 2018, and is still available available on the Netflix platform. It was nominated for the Goya Awards that year for best adapted screenplay, for the work of Natxo López and Marta Sofía Martins. It lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The music was composed by Jimmy Barnatan and the photography was done by Antonio J. García. There are scathing critiques of corruption and hypocrisy in the workplace, especially regarding corporate bosses. The film is directed by Sergio Barrejón.

What is Jefe, a movie on Netflix, about?

Caesar is The Boss. The relationship with his employees shows a dynamic where no one dares to tell him the truth. Some flatter him and others don’t, but everyone hates him. From one day to the next, unexpected misfortunes begin to occur. Corruption is discovered in the company, his wife asks for a divorce and his shares plummet.

Barricaded in his office and betrayed by his partners, he suffers from severe depression and low self-esteem. Over time, he tries to restore the prosperity of the company and the normality of his life. Little by little, he begins to work tirelessly and finds in a new colleague the strength to stay motivated.
