St. Pauli celebrates its first win in 13 years – Stuttgart poor

VfL Wolfsburg – VfB Stuttgart 2:2

With a late goal from national striker Deniz Undav, VfB Stuttgart was just able to avert an unnecessary defeat. Outnumbered, the Swabians made it 2-2 at VfL Wolfsburg in the seventh minute of added time. A week after the brilliant 5-1 win against Borussia Dortmund, Stuttgart did not perform well.

In front of 27,000 spectators in the Volkswagen Arena, Jonas Wind gave the hosts the lead in the 20th minute. After Enzo Millot (32′) equalized for VfB, the strong Mohammed Amoura (68′) took the lead again for VfL, for whom it would have been their first home win of the season. But substitute Undav scored the equalizer.

SC Freiburg – FC St. Pauli 0:3

Hamburg achieved their first win since returning to the Bundesliga. St. Pauli won 3-0 at SC Freiburg and inflicted their second defeat of the season on the hosts. In a game that the sports club controlled for long stretches, Elias Saad (12th minute/72nd) and Oladapo Afolayan (45th) scored for Hamburg out of nowhere. In addition, St. Pauli keeper Nikola Vasilj saved a penalty from the otherwise confident shooter Vincenzo Grifo. Freiburg’s supposed follow-up goals were not recognized due to offside positions.

FSV Mainz 05 – 1. FC Heidenheim 0:2

1. FC Heidenheim ended its sporting mini-crisis in time for the start of the league phase of the Conference League and inflicted a painful home defeat on FSV Mainz 05. Marvin Pieringer (15th minute) and Jan Schöppner (86th) gave Heidenheim a deserved 2-0 win with their goals – and thus a successful dress rehearsal before the game against the Slovenian representatives Olimpija Ljubljana.

The Heidenheimers were helped by the fact that Mainz had to play outnumbered for a good 50 minutes after Andreas Hanche-Olsen was sent off (29′). With five points, Mainz remains in the bottom third of the table.

RB Leipzig – FC Augsburg 4-0

RB Leipzig ended its goal drought with an offensive spectacle. After two recent zero numbers, the Leipzig team won 4-0 against FC Augsburg. Slovenian international striker Benjamin Sesko (11th minute/15th) shot RB into the lead early on with his first two Bundesliga goals of the season. After the substitution, Lois Openda increased (46th) before Xavi Simons (57th) scored to make it 4-0. Augsburg’s Jeffrey Gouweleeuw (27th) was denied a penalty by Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

Borussia Mönchengladbach – Union Berlin 1-0

A last-minute goal from joker Tomas Cvancara helped Borussia Mönchengladbach to their first home win in over seven months. Coach Gerardo Seoane’s team won 1-0 against the completely destructive and disappointing Union Berlin on matchday five. The Iron team suffered their first defeat of the season. For former Borussia professional Bo Svensson, it was also his first defeat as a coach at his former club.

Borussia Dortmund – VfL Bochum 4:2

At the end of the thrilling game, his teammates knew who they had to thank. One Dortmund professional after another hugged match winner Serhou Guirassy or patted him appreciatively on the shoulder. With great effort, the Black and Yellows were able to avert a defeat against VfL Bochum in the small district derby. Coach Nuri Sahin’s team achieved a hard-fought 4-2 win against their local rivals.

After the two early goals conceded by Matus Bero (16th minute) and Dani de Wit (21st), BVB was threatened with the next serious setback. But thanks to goals from Serhou Guirassy (44th/75th), Emre Can (61st/foul penalty) and Felix Nmecha (81st), the turnaround was achieved and, at least for one day, they jumped to second place in the Bundesliga table.
