An ex-Schalke player and former Leipzig player cause a debacle in Shakhtar Donetsk’s home debut at the FC Schalke 04 stadium. A German goalkeeper secures an away win for Rotterdam.
Leverkusen shock Ademola Lookman gave Shakhtar Donetsk a lesson in their first Champions League home game at the FC Schalke 04 stadium. The star of the Italian first division soccer team Atalanta Bergamo led the Europa League winners to a well-deserved 3-0 (2-0) win with a goal and an assist.
The ex-Leipzig lookman, who scored all the goals in Bergamo’s 3-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen in the last Europa League final, prepared the 1-0 goal through Berat Djimsiti (27th minute). Shortly before the break he scored the second goal after a pass from former Schalke player Sead Kolasinac. Raoul Bellanova increased the score to 3-0 after the break (48′).
Thanks to German goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther, Feyenoord Rotterdam won 3-2 (2-1) against Spanish Champions League newcomers FC Girona. Wellenreuther was able to save a penalty from Bojan Miovski (67th). Girona’s keeper Paulo Gazzaniga also saved a penalty from Rotterdam’s Ayase Ueda (36′). Czech Ladislav Krejčí scored an own goal to give the Dutch a 3-2 win.
