The World Anti-Doping Agency’s complaint against the acquittal of tennis star Jannik Sinner has officially been submitted to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport. There will be a hearing there.
The International Court of Arbitration for Sports Cas cannot yet predict when a decision will be made in the case of Italy’s tennis star Jannik Sinner. The World Anti-Doping Agency Wada had objected to the acquittal of the world number one after two positive doping tests. The highest sports court in Lausanne has now announced that Wada’s complaint has been received and has also announced a hearing. A date for this has not yet been announced.
Sinner tested positive twice for the banned anabolic steroid Clostebol in March. The 23-year-old did not receive a ban. The responsible tennis agency Itia justified the acquittal by saying that the two-time Grand Slam tournament winner could not be proven to have acted intentionally or negligently.
Sinner disappointed and surprised by Wada complaint
According to WADA, this statement is “not correct according to the applicable rules”. WADA, based in Montreal, Canada, is therefore calling for “a ban of one to two years” for Sinner. However, WADA does not require any additional deletion of results in addition to those that have already been ordered by the court of first instance. Sinner won the US Open at the beginning of September.
Sinner was recently disappointed and surprised by Wada’s complaint at the ATP tournament in Beijing and emphasized that he was convinced of his innocence. The tennis professional explained that the substance entered his body through the hands of his physiotherapist. The caregiver used a spray containing Clostebol, which is available without a prescription in Italy, to treat a cut on his finger, Sinner explained.
