Uefa Nations League: Nagelsmann in need: These newcomers and returnees are in the DFB squad

Six injury-related absences at the DFB! National coach Julian Nagelsmann has to make more adjustments for the Nations League games than he would like. The newcomers and the returnees at a glance.

The national coach trusts his European Championship squad. Back in September, Julian Nagelsmann didn’t want to rotate much for the first two matchdays. At the beginning of the week he emphasized this to “ARD”: “The group that took part in the European Championships deserves to continue to be in focus.” But now the national coach has to replace some players due to injuries compared to the start of the Nations League.

Important DFB regulars are out

Important regular players Kai Havertz (knee), Jamal Musiala (hip joint) and Niclas Füllkrug (Achilles tendon irritation) are out. Marc-André ter Stegen, who is finally number one in the German goal after Manuel Neuer’s DFB retirement, also seriously injured his knee and will not be available for months.

Defenders Robin Koch (hip problems) and David Raum (ankle injury) also withdrew at short notice. Therefore, Nagelsmann has no choice – he has to change more than he would like. You can read which players the national coach called up and brought back for the first time in this photo series.
