Toni Kroos is staying away from his own DFB farewell party in Munich

A total of four world champions from 2014 should be officially farewelled on Monday. Now there are only three left – Toni Kroos won’t come, writes the DFB.

He should be honored for his achievements in the national uniform, but nothing will come of it: Toni Kroos will be missing from the big DFB farewell to important national football players before the Nations League game against the Netherlands in Munich. Only the two Bayern stars Manuel Neuer (38) and Thomas Müller (35) as well as former captain Ilkay Gündogan (33) will be present at the Allianz Arena on Monday (8:45 p.m. / ZDF). They should be honored before the national anthems for their successes, achievements and long-standing contributions to the national team. This was announced by the German Football Association.

“Kroos would also like to be there in person in Munich, but on Monday he will be on the football field with children as part of training in his youth academy,” the association said in a statement.

The three 2014 world champions Neuer, Müller and Kroos as well as Gündogan resigned as national players after the home European Championships in the summer. Together, the quartet has 451 international matches for Germany. Several long-time employees in the team behind the national team will also say goodbye in Munich on Monday. “The overall package will certainly be very exciting and emotional,” says national coach Julian Nagelsmann. After the game there will be an internal team celebration in the stadium.

Toni Kroos with goosebumps in Madrid

Even after his full career as a footballer has ended, the 34-year-old Kroos still lives with his family in Madrid, Spain. Real fans gave him goosebumps there just last weekend. The former national soccer player was celebrated with chants in the stadium when his former club won 2-0 against Villarreal FC.

“It was as if at least one penalty was whistled for Real,” said the 34-year-old during a game in his Icon League. “That was brutal. I really had goosebumps because I didn’t expect that. That was really special.”
