The ENRE had made the call just ten days ago. At that public hearing, it was going to be discussed andl price of transportation of electrical energy, which represents 1.5% of the final price, to be implemented as of January 1, 2025. It is one of the four components that make up the final bill paid by electricity users.
In the Resolution they assured that “it is reasonable and prudent” to postpone the hearing even though it is “imperative to correct the relative prices of the economy“. According to them, the decision is based on “the positive reaction of the economy to the actions implemented by the Ministry of Economy and the notorious inflationary slowdown.” According to the details, this public hearing was going to be held on November 5 and It was announced last October 2.
The ENRE also justifies that this provision is made within the framework of the current emergency of the National Energy Sector declared on December 31, 2024, the public emergency declared in the Bases law and considering “the economic situation received on December 10, 2023” , the Ministry of Economy “considered it imperative to correct the relative prices of the economy, among which are the prices and rates relating to the natural gas and electric energy sectors.”
The electricity rate increases in October are still in force
According to the new tariff tables applying the PEST update and the transportation and distribution values, Average residential bills will have an increase of 2.7%.
As explained, the transfer to the invoices of the adjustment in the Seasonal Price of Electric Energy (PEST), which the Ministry of Energy set as of October between $63,187 and $66,885 per kWh for high-income users and businesses and industries.
It was clarified that this month middle-income users in segments R1 and R2 who consume up to 400 kWh/month would pay in average 43% less than high-income users of the same segments, while those with low incomes would pay 55% less than N1 consumers in the aforementioned segments.
In this regard, the ENRE pointed out that 815,000 users are located in the low income level of the R1 and R2 segments, which represents 35% of Edesur users. while at Edenor there are 900,000 users in this category, which is equivalent to 34% of the company’s total.
