Nobody expected this: outsider Benedikt Duda beat favorite Lebrun and two-time European champion Ovtcharov at the European Table Tennis Championships – and is now in the final.
The German national player Benedikt Duda completely surprisingly reached the final at the European Table Tennis Championships in Linz. One day after his victory against the big tournament favorite Felix Lebrun from France, the 30-year-old Bundesliga professional from TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt also beat the two-time European champion Dimitrij Ovtcharov in 4:2 sets in the semifinals.
Duda is ranked 28th in the world and, in the shadow of the big names Ovtcharov, Timo Boll and Dang Qiu, has already become European champion and runner-up at the World Cup with the German team. In the individual, this European Championship final on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. is the greatest success of his career so far.
