Djokovic cancels ATP Finals in Turin
The defending champion cancels. An injury forces Novak Djokovic to take a break. The field of participants for Turin is therefore perfect.
Record Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic will not compete in the ATP Finals. The 37-year-old Serb canceled his participation in the event for the eight best tennis professionals of the year, which began on Sunday in Turin, due to an injury.
“I would have really liked to play, but due to an ongoing injury I won’t be playing next week,” wrote the 24-time Grand Slam tournament winner on Instagram. Instead, Djokovic, who has already won the ATP finals seven times, wants to recover on vacation so that he can attack again next year.
Olympic gold, but no Grand Slam title
This year he fulfilled a dream by winning the gold medal at the Olympic Games, but he did not win a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2017. In Turin in 2023 he prevailed in the final against local hero Jannik Sinner.
Due to Djokovic’s cancellation, the field of participants for this year’s ATP Finals has been determined. Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur and Andrej Rublyov are fighting for the title in Turin.
