FC Barcelona’s Pau Cubarsí sustained a laceration to his face in the Champions League game against Red Star Belgrade. He then gave the all-clear with a martial photo.
After 67 minutes, the Champions League game at Red Star Belgrade was over for Barca young star Pau Cubarsí. Coach Hansi Flick had to replace the 17-year-old because Cubarsí got an opponent’s foot in the face when he headed for the ball.
The Spaniard suffered a heavily bleeding laceration and his teammates quickly called the team doctors. The FC Barcelona player left the field with a thick bandage when the score was 4-1. He saw the end of the game in the catacombs – his team won 5-2 in the end. The Spanish international had to receive ten stitches in the dressing room, Flick later explained, but also gave the all-clear: “He’s fine.”

FC Barcelona posts picture of injured Pau Cubarsí
As proof, the club posted a photo of the doctored Cubarsí on social networks that night: the blood that is still on his face is almost reminiscent of Halloween make-up. The stitched wound is clearly visible. But Cubarsí is already raising his thumb in a good mood. “I’m okay,” wrote FC Barcelona, and: “Everything for the club.”
His heroic efforts also earn the young player respect from his teammates. “My warrior,” wrote Barca midfielder Gavi. Central defender Cubarsí is considered one of the biggest talents in the country of the European champions and made his international debut for the Spanish national team in March. However, he was not yet in the squad for the European Championships in the summer. The defender has fought for a regular place in Hansi Flick’s team and has only missed one league game this season. According to the Spanish sports portal “Mundo Deportivo”, it is still questionable whether he will be able to play again in the La Liga game against Real Sociedad.
