World Adoption Day: why November 9

This day of commemoration originated in Los Angeles, United States, when a group of friends began to discuss that there was no world day to celebrate adoption. In this way, the co-founder of the Adopt together crowdfunding platform, Hank Fortener, created WorldAdoptionDay on November 9, 2014.

Fortener is one of the 3 biological children of a couple that took in 36 children and adopted another 8. Therefore, this movement was created in a context where knowledge about this situation is quite developed and experienced. He brought his personal and family experience to this anniversary.
