NHL: Draisaitl scores Oilers victory in overtime
Leon Draisaitl becomes the match winner for his Edmonton Oilers against the New York Islanders. Tim Stützle can also celebrate.
Top German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl scored a double for the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL. The 29-year-old Cologne native scored the decisive goal in extra time to make it 4-3 against the New York Islanders. He was also responsible for the goal to make it 1-0 in the second third.
Draisaitl already has twelve goals this season and has also provided eight assists. For the Oilers, who had reached the Stanley Cup finals the previous season, it was the eighth win in the 16th game of the season.
The second German NHL professional working for a Canadian team was also able to celebrate. Like Draisaitl, Stützle also has 20 scorer points in the current season. He has seven goals and 13 assists so far.
The Winnipeg Jets celebrated a particular success. The Canadians won their away game at the New York Rangers 6-3, making them the first team in NHL history to win 15 of their first 16 games of the season.
