US star Vonn announces skiing comeback with artificial knee
The ski world is looking forward to the next spectacular comeback. The American Lindsey Vonn (40) announces her return. She only had a serious surgical procedure at the beginning of the year.
The former downhill dominator Lindsey Vonn is planning a comeback in the Alpine Ski World Cup at the age of 40. This was announced by the Olympic champion and the American association. Vonn ended her successful career in 2019, which was also marked by many injuries including repeated cruciate ligament tears. She had an artificial knee joint inserted just last February.
“My goal is to enjoy this and hopefully that path will lead me to World Cup racing,” Vonn said in an interview with The New York Times. “I wouldn’t be back on the US Ski Team if I didn’t have intentions.” This weekend she will take part in training sessions with the American team in Copper Mountain (Colorado) for the first time.
With 82 victories, Vonn is the third most successful World Cup racer in history after her compatriot Mikaela Shiffrin (97) and the Swede Ingemar Stenmark (86).
