The city of The Silver turns 142 years old and began to celebrate them by highlighting its Cathedralwhich shone again thanks to the donation from the DESA group, which operates the local energy distributor Edelap, which promoted the placement of more than 200 LED reflectors and the recovery of its bell tower.
In an ambitious project that was coordinated by the province of Buenos Aires, the Municipality of La Plata, the Cathedral Foundation and the Archbishopric of La Platathis Friday the new lighting was inaugurated with a symphonic show of Nicolás Sorinfree and open to the community.
It was a night to remember starring the neighbors, who sat down to enjoy Plaza Moreno, the musical show and the splendor of the Cathedral. The massive party was attended by the governor Axel Kicillof, and the local mayor, Julio Alakwho highlighted that “due to its immense architectural and spiritual value, our Cathedral Church represents the faith, history and soul of our people and is one of the most important cultural heritages of the Province, the Nation and Humanity.”
The space and the new system were blessed by the archbishop administrator of the diocese of La Plata, Monsignor Alberto German Bochatey. Representatives of the clergy also attended; businessmen, university authorities and illustrious citizens; members of the Judiciary and provincial and local professional associations, religious institutions of the city, as well as municipal delegates, communities, representatives of culture and neighborhood institutions and clubs.
More than 60 live musicians performed the Antarctic Symphony, by the renowned artist Nicolás Sorín, who provided a musical show to accompany the inauguration of sustainable outdoor lighting, a project designed by the local energy distributor, called “Lúmina: light, heritage and identity” with the purpose of highlighting buildings, monuments and public spaces that are part of the La Plata heritage.

In addition, the Cathedral recovered the melodies of the bell tower, which was also repaired with the assistance of foreign technicians who prepared a computer system to put it back into operation. Nowthe 25 bells that comprise it will be able to play dozens of melodies.
As part of its commitment to the city, Edelap had a central role: the religious building only had general exterior lighting over its entire perimeter without differentiating any constructive or symbolic aspect that would allow recognition of all its architectural wealth.
The comprehensive renovation of the external electrical installation, including the reconditioning of more than 1 km of wiring, and the placement of reflectors Sustainable LEDs reduce energy consumption by up to 60%.

In that sense, the materialization of a comprehensive project was promoted that focuses attention on the valorization of the Cathedral Temple with a nocturnal view, that can be recognized from a distance, from any point in the city, and that promotes the enhancement of the lines typical of the neo-Gothic style.
The enhancement received the support of the Free Chair of Cultural Heritage and Identity of the National University of La Plata and the Foundation Emile Coutaret.
The project was led by two experts in the preservation of historical monuments, Teresa Anchorena and Fabio Grementieri, together with the Infrastructure commission of the Cathedral Foundation, Edelap and local suppliers.
