Report: DFB wants to extend Nagelsmann’s contract until 2028
Julian Nagelsmann is bound to the DFB as national coach until 2026. And then? Apparently discussions about a commitment beyond this are already underway.
The German Football Association apparently wants to work with national coach Julian Nagelsmann beyond the 2026 World Cup. As “Bild” reports, both parties are already in talks about extending the contract for another two years. Nagelsmann’s current working paper ends after the 2026 World Cup. The 37-year-old successor to Hansi Flick has been national coach since September last year.
According to the report, the DFB is keen to extend the contract with its head coach. Nagelsmann, who previously coached FC Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, is also said to be not averse. After the World Cup in two years, he could get the national team fit for the 2028 European Championship, which England will host together with Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
Nagelsmann’s strong balance sheet for 2024
This year in particular, the DFB selection was convincing under Nagelsmann’s direction. The balance was positive with ten wins, four draws and only one defeat (with 35:10 goals). The only flaw was the exit in the European Championship quarter-finals due to the 1:2 after extra time against eventual title winners Spain.
