99th World Cup victory for ski star Shiffrin – Dürr fifth

Ski superstar Mikaela Shiffrin cannot be beaten at the slalom in Gurgl. Lena Dürr narrowly missed the podium. 18-year-old Lara Colturi is making history for Albania.

Exceptional rider Mikaela Shiffrin celebrated her 99th victory in the Alpine Ski World Cup. The American also won the second slalom of the season in Gurgl, Austria, and can therefore break the 100 World Cup success mark at her home race in Killington next weekend.

The German hopeful Lena Dürr, who came third in the first slalom run of the winter in Levi, Finland, finished fifth. 18-year-old Lara Colturi came in second for a big surprise and the first podium finish ever for Albania. The Swiss Camille Rast finished third.

Dürr struggles with the first run

“I think we’re all trying to counteract that,” said Dürr on ARD when asked whether Shiffrin would achieve his 100th victory in the USA in a week. According to her own statement, the 33-year-old “overslept a bit” in the first run, but then made up a place in the second. Overall, Dürr said she was satisfied. The third place in the World Championships explained that she wanted to carry the momentum into the next races.

Dürr was the only German to make it into the second round. Her teammate Emma Aicher initially ran quickly in the first run, but then dropped out.
