Kompany has lost his way: Does this paper reveal Bayern’s tactics against PSG?

Damn paperwork! A secret paper comes to light during Bayern training before the Champions League game against PSG. This is probably Kompany’s strategy for the game.

Things are not going well for FC Bayern and Paris St. Germain this Champions League season. Both teams are under pressure when they meet on Tuesday evening (9 p.m. / Amazon Prime). The Munich team (six points) host the French team (four points) in the Allianz Arena at home.

Before the European giants meet, details about the tactics of the German record champions are said to have come to light. During Bayern’s training session on Monday, a journalist from the “Bild” newspaper managed to grab Kompany’s hand. A lineup can clearly be seen on it. This is probably Munich’s starting lineup against PSG.

New approach for the Champions League?

On paper it can be seen that Kompany is apparently planning with Joshua Kimmich (29) and Leon Goretzka (29) in the six position. Behind them are the defenders Dayot Upamecano (26), Minjae Kim (27) and Alphonso Davies (24). Unlike the Augsburg game in the Bundesliga, Konrad Laimer (27) is listed in the right-back position instead of Raphael Guerreiro (30). “Konrad did an outstanding job in this role,” Kompany recently praised the Austrian.

They can “gamble” with him again at FC Bayern

While Bayern’s defense and defensive midfield appear to have few surprises, Vincent Kompany could take a new approach on offense and rotate more players.

Full offensive power against PSG

On the sheet of paper it looks as if the Bayern coach would rely on a so-called 4-2-4 system against the opponents from the French capital. Harry Kane (31) and Jamal Musiala (21) appear to act as a double striker. It is to be expected that Kane will repeatedly drop to receive and pass on balls, while Musiala will join in at the front.

The wingers are supposed to be even more offensive when in possession of the ball, as the paper suggests. They could then act as a four-man attack with Musiala and Kane and put pressure on the French defense.

Spoiled for choice on the wings

Various personnel constellations are conceivable. There are two players per position on the list: Kingsley Coman (28) and Serge Gnabry (29) on the left. Michael Olise (22) and Leroy Sané (28) on the right.

Kompany therefore still has to decide which of the Bayern stars he will field as a winger. In the evening it will become clear whether the coach really relies on the 4-2-4 formation.
