FC Bayern’s cup exit against Leverkusen: Eberl barks at reporters
Max Eberl is emotionally affected by FC Bayern’s bitter cup exit. The sports director reacted violently to a reporter’s question after the 0-1 defeat against Leverkusen.
In great frustration over the bitter defeat in the cup when they were outnumbered against defending champions Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich’s sports director Max Eberl once again verbally attacked a reporter. When the 51-year-old was asked about Munich’s poor season record against top opponents after the 1-0 defeat in the round of 16, he snapped: “I know that you are very critical. I know that you question everything. That’s me relatively don’t give a shit.”
In conversation with journalists, Eberl refused to classify this defeat with the bad results that Bayern had in games such as in the Champions League against FC Barcelona (1:4) or in the Bundesliga at home against Leverkusen (1:1) or away in Frankfurt (3:3).
Max Eberl: “This game is out of the statistics”
“Today it’s not a question of defeating bigger opponents. We’re one man less. I hope that’s how it came across to everyone. Even if you didn’t see it on the pitch, we played with one man less. That’s why “This game is out of all the other statistics,” argued Eberl.
In the most recent 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain, the Munich team also benefited from the majority after a yellow-red card for PSG professional Ousmane Dembélé and then celebrated the top game victory.
Eberl praises FC Bayern’s reaction to Neuer-Rot
Eberl preferred to praise the character of his own team, which stood up to ten men for over 70 minutes after the early red card for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. “I thought the team’s reaction was outstanding. I have a lot of respect for the team. That’s character for me to say we don’t give in, we don’t back down. We still try to win the game.”
Eberl reacts emotionally more often after games. And when he interacts with reporters, he not only takes the money, he also gives it out. After the defeat in Barcelona in October, he recommended to a reporter, after a critical question about the central defenders Dayot Upamecano and Minjae Kim, “get the coaching license.” Then he could do better.
