Celebrations at FC Bayern
Real Madrid has returned to winning ways in the premier class.

The “Reds” won 1-0 at the Spanish club Girona on Tuesday. Inter Milan are no longer unbeaten and without conceding a goal after a 0-1 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen. Atalanta Bergamo also had their first defeat with a 2-3 defeat against defending champions Real Madrid. Konrad Laimer and Christoph Baumgartner celebrated the goals.

Laimer scored 1-1 (11th) in Bayern Munich’s 5-1 win against Shakhtar Donetsk in Gelsenkirchen in the style of a goal-getter. It was the first competitive goal of the season for the 27-year-old from Salzburg, who was once again playing as a right-back. His 25-year-old ÖFB team compatriot Baumgartner scored for the third time in 2024/25, his second time in the premier class. His 2:2 in the 62nd minute for hosts RB Leipzig was not enough for the first point, as Aston Villa still managed the 3:2 winning goal. Club Brugge was also happy about a late win in a 2-1 win against Sporting Lisbon. Stade Brest also had a home win against PSV Eindhoven (1-0). No goals were scored by coach Nenad Bjelica’s Dinamo Zagreb against Celtic Glasgow (0-0).

Salah scored again

Mohamed Salah became Liverpool’s match winner with a converted penalty (63′), after a foul by Donny van de Beek on Luis Diaz that was punished according to the VAR study. For the 32-year-old Egyptian it was the 16th goal in the 22nd competitive game of the season, once again promoting a contract extension beyond the summer. It was the only time in the game that Paulo Gazzaniga had to admit defeat. He had previously reacted brilliantly to shots from Joe Gomez (4th), Darwin Nunez (35th) and Andy Robertson (59th).

As did Alisson Becker on the other side with opportunities from Alejandro Frances (12th), Yaser Asprilla (38th) and Arnaut Danjuma (46th). Liverpool (18 points/1st place) secured their 19th victory in the 22nd competitive game under coach Arne Slot after the weather-related cancellation of the league derby at Everton at the weekend. It was already the fifth defeat for Girona (3/30th), who recently lost 0-1 against Sturm Graz.

Inter had long been on course to become the first team to survive the first six Champions League games of a season without conceding a goal. In the finish, when Marko Arnautovic, who had been substituted in the 85th minute, was also there for the Italians, Nordi Mukiele (90th) thwarted the guests’ plans. Leverkusen moved level with Inter in the table on points (13 each), and both teams maintained their top eight position.
