14 years after the last film, the saga will return to theaters with the return of its protagonists.
A fourth film in the series is in the works. Meet The Parents (My girlfriend’s family), with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro returning to their main roles.
The franchise follows hapless Greg Focker (Stiller), a nurse who has to confront the family of his girlfriend Pam (Teri Polo), particularly his parents Jack (De Niro) and Dina (Blythe Danner).
To date three films have been made: Meet The Parents (2000), Meet The Fockers (2004) and Little Fockers (2010), and now it seems that after 14 years, the characters are preparing to return to the big screen.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the fourth film is already in preliminary negotiations, and John Hamburgwho has co-written all three films in the series so far, will return once again. There is no director assigned yet, although Hamburg has directed films such as Along Came Polly, I Love You, Man and Why Him?so it is likely that he will also be among the candidates.
The return of Meet The Parents
The first film is a remake of a 1992 independent film of the same name, which was made on a budget of $30,000. At various points, the 2000 film was linked to Steven Spielberg and Jim Carrey as director and lead actor respectively, but in the end the film turned out to be a great success, grossing more than 165 million dollars and being one of the biggest hits of the year.
In Meet The Fockers, Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand joined the cast, but it was not so well received by critics. However, it did have great box office success ($522 million worldwide) and gave rise to the third film. That delivery, in which they also participated Kevin Hart, Laura Dern, Jessica Alba and Harvey Keitelraised $310 million and was highly criticized.
