Ceramic factory paralyzed production and there are fears of layoffs

This is the Loimar firm located in the Buenos Aires city of Tandil. The company justifies the decision due to the drop in sales and increase in costs.

The ceramic factory Loimarone of the most representative companies in Tandil, decided to stop its production in recent weeks, generating great concern in the community and among its workers. The stoppage responds to a series of economic problems that have been affecting the company: sales dropconstant increase in operating costs and electricity rates that are difficult to sustain.

The plant stopped operating in two stages. On October 30, the kilns used to manufacture bricks were turned off, while on November 19, the production of ceramic floors completely ceased.. This interruption directly affects about 80 employees, and threatens to also impact indirect jobs related to transportation and the provision of materials.

The company does not rule out resuming activities during 2025, as long as economic conditions improve and the market stabilizes.. However, uncertainty reigns among employees, as no clear details have been provided about what will happen during this period of inactivity. The fear of mass layoffs is latent, adding tension to the situation.

“Today, with clear rules regarding respect for property and a growth horizon for 2025, Loimar SA maintains the expectation of being able to resume its activity when the market recovers and economic variables allow it,” the company said.

There is speculation among workers that this stoppage could be a maneuver to reduce staff or modify working conditions, something that has been reported on previous occasions.

The Loimar plant has historically been an important source of employment for Tandil, so its closure, even temporary, could have profound consequences on the local economy. The expectation is that dialogue between the company, employees and authorities will allow for a solution to be found that guarantees the continuity of production without sacrificing jobs.

For now, the future of Loimar remains in suspense, and with it, that of many families who depend on this historic factory for their survival.
