It’s about vitamin infusion
Australian tennis player Max Purcell provisionally suspended
There is another doping case in tennis. Max Purcell admits anti-doping rule violation. The Australian professional voluntarily goes into a temporary suspension.
Australian tennis player Max Purcell voluntarily undergoes an interim suspension under the anti-doping program. This was announced by the responsible International Tennis Integrity Agency (Itia).
The 26-year-old Purcell, who won the US Open final this year in doubles with compatriot Jordan Thompson against the German duo Kevin Krawietz/Tim Pütz, admitted a violation relating to the use of a prohibited method, wrote Itia in a statement Opinion.
Purcell himself reported in an Instagram message about a vitamin infusion above the permissible value of 100 milliliters, which happened without his knowledge. During one stay, he told the hospital staff that he was a professional athlete and that the infusion had to be below the 100 milliliter limit.
“The news was devastating for me as I am proud to be an athlete who always makes sure everything is WADA compliant,” the tennis pro wrote. He voluntarily shared the information with Itia and is very much looking forward to “being back on the pitch soon”.
The Australian requested an interim ban that came into effect on December 12, 2024. During this time, Purcell will not be allowed to participate in or attend any official tennis tournaments. The time he serves under the provisional ban will be counted towards the possible final sanction.
