Ice Hockey: ICE plans for 12 native players per match

A corresponding regulation for the promotion of domestic players is to replace the controversial points regulation for transfer cards. Negotiations between the ICE Hockey League and the Austrian Ice Hockey Association (ÖEHV) are ongoing and are likely to become part of a broader cooperation agreement.

The regulation would mean that a maximum of ten legionnaires may be used per game and club. Ten legionnaires were also previously set as the limit, but with exceptions, which allowed teams to use up to twelve transfer card players.

In the future, twelve players per club and match who are eligible to play for the Austrian national team will have to appear on the match report. In addition, every club should have at least two U24 players in the match squad, and every club should be allowed to license a maximum of 26 players per season who do not fall into the category “local U24 players”.
