After head surgery: ski star Sarrazin leaves intensive care
After his bad fall and the subsequent operation, Cyprien Sarrazin is apparently improving slightly. He is due to return to France on Friday for further treatment.
French ski star Cyprien Sarrazin is apparently still on the mend after his violent fall during downhill training in Bormio. But he will be out for an indefinite period of time. The French association said the 30-year-old’s health was stable. Sarrazin has now left the intensive care unit.
The plan is for him to return to France on Friday and receive further treatment in the neurosurgical department of a hospital there. A long recovery and rehabilitation phase is now beginning, it was said. It is currently unclear how long the speed specialist will be out.
Sarrazin fell on the notorious Stelvio slope in Bormio last Friday and was rescued by helicopter. That same evening he was operated on in an Italian hospital for a subdural hematoma, a hemorrhage near the brain. He woke up from the induced coma on Saturday. According to the French association, no other injuries, such as those to the knees or feet, were found.
Sarrazin caused a sensation last winter and, among other things, won the two downhill runs on the legendary Streif in Kitzbühel. He also triumphed in Bormio and Wengen, where the next men’s speed races will take place in mid-January.
