Symptoms of heat stroke
Heat stroke occurs when a person is exposed for prolonged periods to high temperatures and high humidityor when doing intense physical activity on hot days. In its milder manifestations, it can cause symptoms such as skin rednessheadaches, dizziness, muscle crampsfeeling of intense thirst, dry mouth, excessive sweating and fatigue.
However, the condition may become more severe if signs such as fever greater than 39°Cfainting, confusion, disorientation or even loss of consciousness. To prevent these situations, it is essential to take certain precautions.
- Drink water regularly, even if you are not thirsty, and avoid excessive alcoholic or sugary drinks.
- Wear light, light-colored clothing made of breathable materials.
- Stay in cool, shaded places, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Use sunscreen with adequate protection factor and reapply it every 2 hours
- Maintain ventilated and cool environments; use fans or air conditioning if possible
- Reduce physical efforts during the hottest hours
What to do if you suffer from heat stroke
They also shared what procedure should be followed if you have some of these symptoms, whether mild or strong:
- If the person experiences mild symptoms, it is advised hydrate immediately and look for shade or a cool place.
- You can also moisten the skin redness or apply cold water cloths, especially on the neck, armpits and groin to lower body temperature.
- If you have serious symptoms such as confusion, high fever or loss of consciousness, it is recommended go to a health center immediately.
