The president of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Carlotto’s Stelewarned this Friday that Javier Milei’s government “wants to close the exESMA”, after the dismissal of hundreds of workers from the memory space and the announcement of the closure of the Haroldo Conti Cultural Center, which operates there.

Carlotto in reference to the adjustment made by the Government in the space that remembers the crimes of the last dictatorship (1976-1983).

Since the beginning of the administration, the Government has carried out a strong adjustment in the area that included dozens of layoffs. The last chapter happened last December 31. The Secretary of Human Rights, Alberto Baños, told the workers that The Haroldo Conti Cultural Memory Center would close. He did it through a WhatsApp message sent by his private secretary.

From the Association of State Workers (ATE)denounced that the management of Baños carries out “mass dismissals, cruelty, extortion, persecution and violence in the Human Rights Secretariat.” So far, the secretary has not commented on the matter.

For her part, Estela de Carlotto questioned the Government’s policy on human rights. “They say it is to clean it, they say it is to organize it, but for me it is to destroy everything that they do not want to exist and to talk about the true Argentine history,” said Carlotto in statements on Radio Splendid.

ATE holds a festival against the closure of the Haroldo Conti Cultural Memory Center

In repudiation of Secretary Baños’ announcement, ATE will hold on Saturday, January 4, starting at 6:00 p.m., the festival “A memory that BURNS. The Conti on guard” in the Memory Space (exESMA), Av. Del Libertador 8151, CABA.

“We call on our beautiful, dignified, belligerent community – the one that made this great stage the strength, transformation and freedom of truth – to join us,” they ask from ATEwhich brings together the majority of El Conti workers.
