Ski star Vonn finished sixth in the downhill run in St. Anton

Lindsey Vonn continues to wow on her comeback tour. In St. Anton they are only 0.4 seconds away from a podium place. Kira Weidle-Winkelmann narrowly missed the top ten.

Ski star Lindsey Vonn has set the next exclamation mark in the second comeback race. The American took a strong sixth place in the downhill from St. Anton. The Italian Federica Brignone secured victory ahead of the Swiss Malorie Blanc and the Czech all-rounder Ester Ledecka. The German speed specialist Kira Weidle-Winkelmann took twelfth place.

In the second race after her return to the Alpine World Cup, all eyes were on Vonn. After finishing 14th in the Super-G in St. Moritz shortly before Christmas, the 40-year-old was even stronger this time. In the end, just 0.4 seconds separated them from a place on the podium. At the finish, Vonn cheered exuberantly, beamed and clenched his fist.

First departure in almost six years

Vonn had competed in her last World Cup downhill run to date almost exactly six years ago in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The former speed dominator, who won 82 World Cup races, Olympic gold in 2010 and two World Championship titles in her career, now rides with an artificial knee joint.

Weidle-Winkelmann, who missed the first run of the season in Beaver Creek due to poor health, was largely satisfied with her performance. “I’m back,” said the 2021 World Cup runner-up to ZDF.
