American Football: Chiefs can make NFL history: Back in the Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs are playing against the Philadelphia Eagles for the Super Bowl. For the defending champions from Kansas, it’s also about NFL history: With a hard-fought 32:29 against the Buffalo Bills, the Chiefs reached the final for the most important trophy in American football for the third time in a row – and are the first team to do so win for the third time in a row. The Super Bowl will be played on February 9th in New Orleans.

Overall, it is the fifth participation in the last six years for Kansas City. Last year there was a win against the San Francisco 49ers, and in 2023 the Chiefs started their series with a win against the Eagles. They earned their way back to the Super Bowl with a 55:23 win against the Washington Commanders.

Mahomes: “I’m at a loss for words”

“I’m at a loss for words,” said Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who scored two touchdowns through runs and set up another through a pass. “It’s not about one or a few people, it’s about everyone on this team. This is a team sport.”

According to CBS, the last time there were three championships in a row in one of the major US professional leagues was a good quarter of a century ago, when the Los Angeles Lakers won three titles in a row in the NBA.
