Champions League
Playoff hammer or miracle? Müller: “Full strength ahead”
The gripping preliminary round final promises great excitement for FC Bayern. The round of 16 is still possible, but even large playoff tasks. There is also a crazy Bundesliga version.
Manchester City? Real Madrid? Juventus Turin? FC Bayern can continue to hope for the round of 16 in the nerve-wracking royal class showdown, but the playoffs are far more likely-maybe even with a mutton duel. “If you want to win the Champions League, you all have to beat. We trust ourselves. That’s why I am not scared and worried, even if we have to go to the playoffs,” said the two-time Henkelpott winner Thomas Müller before the Finale preliminary round game on Wednesday (9:00 p.m./DAZN) against Slovan Bratislava.
A week after the 0: 3-Watschn at Feyenoord Rotterdam, Müller announces a victory reaction in Europe’s renewed elite league. “We want to win the last group game – and then we’ll see who we get. A victory is an absolute obligation,” said Müller in the BR24Sport interview. On Friday the games will be drawn for the additional ko round, in which on 11/12. and 18./19. February eight other round of 16 on the long way to the final are awarded.
Calcula artists with joy in a mega conference
The top runner FC Liverpool and Bayern conqueror FC Barcelona are safe in the round of 16. The Munich also have chances on the direct ticket with many if there is still chances. Vincent Kompany’s stamp ensemble has to do so on the last matchday as table-15. Go past a total of seven teams.
In addition, the three tied teams Real Madrid, Juventus Turin and Celtic Glasgow, who have the poorer goal difference, should not overtake the FCB. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen spoke of a “miracle” before the mega conference with 18 parallel games.
“We have to win our game. That is what we can influence. We have to beat Bratislava – and if possible, maybe do something for the goal difference,” said sports director Max Eberl. “Then there is a result and a draw and then let’s see who the opponent will be.”
German duels or international cracks possible
In addition to crackling against city, real or Juve or exams against VfB Stuttgart, a duel with rival Borussia Dortmund is also possible – if not very likely. A highly unlikely but theoretically possible playoff game against Bayer Leverkusen would have a special note because the three (!) Duels would have in just one week. Because on February 15th there will be a league meeting of the Doubles win with the record champions in the Rhineland.
“The mode shows that supposedly large teams such as Bavaria, Real Madrid, PSG or Manchester City had a bit of fear of contact or have to feel in this competition,” said Eberl. The defending champion Real, like Bavaria, is at least certainly in the playoffs to fear the City, PSG & Co. That other top clubs are difficult, “I don’t feel a better feeling,” said Müller. He only looks at Bayern. And for the “full force ahead”.
The battered Leon Goretzka is missing from the penultimate yellow-locked, Alphonso Davies is injured. Since Sven Ulreich is also not present as a substitute in Rotterdam after his red card as Daniel Peretz after a kidney squeezing, U17 world champion Max Schmitt is the replacement for captain Manuel Neuer. New signing Jonas Urbig (1. FC Köln) is not yet eligible to play.
“It is important that the squad gets full again. Especially because we are likely to go to the playoffs. We need everyone,” said midfield chief Joshua Kimmich. After his plain text, he hopes for a new upswing in the final stadium. “Nobody in the cabin has the feeling that we are currently number 1 in Europe and have only lost unhappily,” said Kimmich.
Kane wants to end goal flaut
The Slovak champion, who lost 1: 3 against VfB Stuttgart a week ago, comes well as an opponent. In seven group games there were seven defeats for Bratislava at 6:24 goals. “We will go with the same mentality as against Freiburg,” said striker Harry Kane.
After the first goal of the English has been scored in the 2-1 against Freiburg for two months, he also wants to meet in Europe. There he scored his last goal of the season so far on October 23 at 1: 4 in Barcelona.
