Alpine Ski World Cup in Austria
Early end for ski star Vonn-Venier fetches Super-G gold
Heavy damper for Kira Weidle-Winkelmann, painful end for Lindsey Vonn. An Austrian is the great winner in the Super-G from Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Emma Aicher also convinced.
The German ski racers and US star Lindsey Vonn missed the World Cup medals in the Super-G from Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Emma Aicher was the sixth of a good result, her teammate Kira Weidle-Winkelmann experienced a bitter disappointment as 23.
The returnee Vonn was eliminated early in her first World Cup race in six years. The former speed queen drove into a goal in a right curve at a high pace and then held his right arm with pain.
The victory went somewhat surprisingly to Austrian Stephanie Venier. The local hero referred the favorite Federica Brignone from Italy for a tenth of a second in second place. Bronze shared the Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff with the simultaneous American Lauren Macuga. For Lie it was a déjà vu: she had already shared third place at the World Cup two years ago – at that time with Cornelia Hütter from Austria.
On Friday (11.30 a.m./ARD and Eurosport), the men’s Super-G will take place at the Zwölferkogel.
