Biathletes get the first relay medal with bronze since 2020

The German biathletes are not part of the favorite group. But they grow beyond themselves and are rewarded. Two stars from Norway get gold in their last World Cup relay.

The German male relay won a medal for the first time in the Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide for the first time in five years. Philipp Nawrath, Danilo Riethmüller, Johannes Kühn and Philipp Horn were a little surprising in Switzerland, but bronze well -deserved. In the final shooting with the Swedes Sebastian Samuelsson, Horn secured the longed -for badge with five quick goals before his teammates were euphoric at the finish.

After two Titellos World Championships, the Norwegians gave John Thingnes and Tarjei Bö, the longed for the end of the season at the end of the season. Superstar Johannes Thingnes Bö even had time to stand on the final round after the huge lead and to cheer with the fans in rows. Silver went to the French who had won all season relay races so far. After 4 x 7.5 kilometers, the DSV quartet was 1: 42.6 minutes behind the winners. France was 46.5 seconds behind the Scandinavians.

In 2015 in Finnish Contiables, there was the last relay title for German men so far. Many disappointments followed in the following years, and since Silver 2020 in Antholz, the team had been waiting for the podium.

Norway dominates – German celebrations with

Justus Strelow (28), who fetched bronze in the mixed relay and in the single-mixed twice, was somewhat surprisingly not used as a start runner. Because the safest German shooter is not one of the strongest in terms of runner, the sporting leadership for Nawrath decided. The recently diseased Nesselwanger was able to avoid the penalty round and changed 25.5 seconds behind Norway as the sixth.

Riethmüller did a solid job in his first season of the World Cup and brought the DSV quartet to bronze to position five in striking distance. Kühn then delivered, especially his error -free standing series was remarkable, as he often has the most problems there.

So it was Horn, who would have become a seventh with one less than a southern seventh to bring the medal to the finish. He went to his race for 13 seconds before Samuelsson. After three loading on the lying shooting, the 30-year-old and the Swede went together in the penultimate round. At the last shooting, Horn pulled his rhythm and was rewarded.
