VfL Bochum: A lighter throw could affect the relegation battle

The lighter slate at the Bundesliga game 1. FC Union Berlin against VfL Bochum goes into the second round legally-the case could employ the relegation battle even longer. The Federal Supreme Court of the German Football Association is negotiating the appeals of Union Berlin, Holstein Kiel and FC St. Pauli against the judgment of the sports court in favor of the Bochumer this Friday (12.30 p.m.) on the DFB campus in Frankfurt.

If the Federal Supreme Court confirmed the judgment of the sports court on January 9, Bochum would have two more points in the table and, according to the current status, would outperform 1. FC Heidenheim by two points and displace from the 16th place. Union Berlin (13th) would be deducted. The sports court had given up the Bochum’s objection against the 1-1 and decided that the game was scored 2-0 for VfL.

The instances of the DFB end with the federal court. According to its judgment, the Bundesliga table will be adapted-if necessary. But: theoretically, the parties to the proceedings can also pull before the constant arbitration court for associations and corporations.

The game in the stadium on the old forestry was interrupted on December 14th in the 92nd minute for more than 25 minutes after the Bochum goalkeeper Patrick Drewes had been hit by a lighter thrown out of the Union block and had to be from the field.

The game was then continued and ended by referee Martin Petersen without Drewes. Since Bochum had already exhausted his replacement quota, attacker Philipp Hofmann briefly went into the goal. After that, both teams just fit the ball back and forth to end the encounter.

Outraged. “It is bad enough that people always throw objects on stages, interiors or on the lawn at concerts or sporting events,” said President Dirk Zingler. “However, it is much worse if someone tries to get an advantage from these events to prevent an organizer.” The actual unsportsmanlike scandal took place on the lawn after the event and then in court, said Zingler. In his opinion, this judgment harms football. The Berliners doubt that there was an injury to Drewes. Union had determined the lighter thrower, filed a complaint and issued a three -year ban on stadium.

“In the front left” on the head “he was hit, the 32-year-old said at the sports court hearing and reported dizziness, nausea and pain at the hit site. Drewes was later examined in the hospital. A test for concussion was inconspicuous. “We did not get the corresponding clues for a special acting contribution from Mr. Drewes or for a plot or a lubrication comedy,” said judge Stephan Oberholz in the first instance.

The two clubs – Holstein is the bottom of the table, Pauli 15. – fear a possible influence in the relegation battle. “Of course, you have to question the extent to which you intervene in the integrity of the competition. Uninvolved clubs are of course affected by this judgment,” said St. Pauli President Oke Göttlich at Sky.

The 1. FC Heidenheim is tied with Bochum deep in the relegation battle, but keeps out of the legal tug. “We decided not to make an objection to this judgment because we were not directly involved in this game. Nevertheless, we consider the first judgment to be wrong,” said Holger Sanwald, the CEO of the table-16.

The meeting is headed by Oskar Riedmeyer, the chairman of the court. According to the DFB, the legal body intends to decide on the admissibility of Holstein Kiel and St. Pauli’s appeals right at the beginning of the negotiation. The Federal Supreme Court offered both associations to make this decision in advance of the trial in the written procedure – but both clubs had requested a decision at an oral hearing.
