Alpine Ski World Cup
First podium: Aicher surprises as a runway
Emma Aicher has long been considered a large German alpine talent. Now the 21-year-old celebrates her first podium in the World Cup.
Emma Aicher has occupied a podium for the first time in the Alpine Ski World Cup. The 21-year-old surprised in the first of two departure races in Kvitfjell in Norwegian. The Olympic second with the team of Beijing 2022 only had to surrender to the Austrian Cornelia Hütter by 0.15 seconds. Third place of departure Breezy Johnson from the USA was 0.40 seconds behind.
“I am very happy. I tried to drive as skiing as I could do in the training sessions,” said Aicher on ZDF. It felt good while driving. “It was a bit surprised. It is very cool that it worked,” said the frequent starter, “it is a dream, we are working on that all year round.”
Weidle-Winkelmann in the top ten
Aicher had already achieved a top result at the latest World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. “It definitely helped,” she said in retrospect.
Kira Weidle-Winkelmann came to the good tenth and was 1.00 seconds slower than the winner. The journey was okay, but there were a few uncertainties on the way. It was “a solid result,” said the 29-year-old.
