Ex-international
Mario Basler counters rumors and comments on the AfD
Mario Basler quickly spoke when AfD chief Tino Chrupalla bragged that two ex-Bavaria professionals congratulated him on the election result. Now Basler speaks himself.
Mario Basler did not fall on the mouth. The former international has ever held back as a player nor as a football pensioner. His reaction to rumors was in line with the fact that he had congratulated the AfD boss Tino Chrupalla on the good election result of his party in the federal election. Chrupalla himself proudly reported that two former Bayern professionals would have sent him news with congratulations. As a result, assumptions quickly arose that Basler was one of the professionals.
When asked by RTL/NTV, Basler made it clear: “I chose CDU, I chose Friedrich Merz.” He had written a message to the CDU top candidate “that only he gets my voice,” said the former professional, who played among others for 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen and FC Bayern.
Mario Basler jokes about the AfD boss on a turtleneck sweater
Basler also expressed his opinion on AfD – and that was not in the spirit of Chrupalla. “Bad enough that they got so many percentage,” said Basler. 20.8 percent of the votes had gone to the AfD, in the new Bundestag the party observed by the constitutional protection is the second largest faction. “Actually, you don’t have to lose words about the AfD, you shouldn’t give them a platform,” emphasized Basler. “Before that happens, I would have to be born four times before I choose the AfD.” His conclusion to the right: “This party is as far away from Germany as the earth from the moon.”
Basler could even be carried away by the turtleneck from AfD Chancellor candidate Alice Weidel (“He already stands, she doesn’t have to hang it up, she can put it in the corner”) and criticized that the right-wing populists did not have much to offer in terms of content: “This party, which should first have a plan, not only the plan.” At Merz he hopes “that he also knows what it is about”. “They all have to understand that this is about Germany, not about personal sensitivities.”
