Jungk fetches World Cup bronze in the skeleton: “Feel like gold”
Jungk still releases World Cup silver in the skeleton in the final run, but is happy. Olympic champion Grotheer can no longer intervene in the medal fight and is discarded by a British.
Axel Jungk missed his third World Cup silver after 2017 and 2020 and got bronze. The 34-year-old from the BSC Sachsen Oberbärenburg had at the Skeleton World Championship in Lake Placid on the victorious British Matt Weston, who won his second World Cup title in the third run (52.80 seconds), 1.93 seconds behind four runs. On the second day of the competition, Jungk had initially improved to second place, but then had to let the British Marcus Wyatt pass by three hundredths of a second in the final.
“I am extremely relieved, the last two days were already very hard for the head. It was also fun. I managed to stay calm. I had silver in my hand and let it lie down,” said Jungk and, after difficult times: “It feels like gold”
The dethroned defending champion Christopher Grotheer could no longer intervene in the medal fight and even fell back to seventh place from fourth. The targeted attack on the front places completely flew completely with the only eleventh time in Run three. “I am disappointed, could not build on the driver’s performance that I have on it. I wanted to attack in the third run, but was too risky,” said the 32-year-old skeletoni from BRC Thuringia, who won 2020, 2021 and 2024 World Cup gold. He had an incredible 2.22 second behind winner Weston.
Grotheer already awarded the chances of his fourth World Cup gold in singles on the first day when he rely on the wrong material. “I didn’t think it would be so ripe. I have to chalice that myself,” he said. Felix Keisinger from WSV Königssee came to Rank14 on Mount van Hoevenberg. “One of the larger low points of my career, we don’t need to discuss it,” said Bayer.
