Gladbach on Effenberg’s traces
Borussia Mönchengladbach remains a surprise of the season. An important victory is achieved in Bremen. Especially thanks to a player.
Thanks to triple scorer Alassane Pléa, Borussia Mönchengladbach is playing vigorously again in the race for the European Cup places. The French striker led the Gladbacher with his three goals to a 4: 2 (2: 2) at Werder Bremen and thus to the fourth away win in a row.
Four victories abroad in one season in one season the Borussia last won with Stefan Effenberg in the 1994/95 season. At that time, Gladbach qualified for international business and won the last title so far with the DFB Cup.
In front of 42,100 spectators in the sold -out Weser Stadium, Pléa put the guests in the lead early (7th minute/penalty, 28th). After Romano Schmid (39.) and André da Silva (45.+1/penalty) had compensated for Werder before the break, Pléa Gladbach brought the lead again immediately after the change of sides (47.). National striker Tim Kleinderdust then made everything clear to Borussia (81st). For the Bremeners, the train upwards should have been driven by the defeat.
Gladbach in Bremen: Pléa outstanding
A week after the sobering 1: 3 against FSV Mainz 05, the Gladbacher in the Weser Stadium initially made a ripe performance. The eleven of the Lower Rhine initially had the action under control and took the lead early. After an unnecessary foul by Milos Veljkovic to Robin Hack, Pléa converted the due penalty.
Werder seemed shocked by the early deficit. The Bremeners could not take the swing of the surprising 2-0 with the German champion Bayer Leverkusen and showed a disappointing performance in the first half hour.
Only Anthony Jung, who will leave Werder like Veljkovic after the season, was dangerous for the hosts with a long -range shot on the crossbar (13th). Gladbach controlled the action and was also very efficient. With a nice volley shot, Pléa increased to 2-0.
Werder beats back (short)
But then the guests apparently felt too safe. First Hack made an unnecessary bad pass, then a stupid foul. Schmid Schön converted the following free kick to the connection goal. Now the Bremen were finally awake. Just a minute after the 1-2, Felix Agu would have had to equalize, but shot completely freely next to the Gladbach Tor from a short distance.
Nevertheless, the Bremeners went into the break with a draw. After minutes of review by the video assistant, referee Timo Gerach decided on a penalty after a thrust by Lukas Ullrich against Issa Kaboré. Da Silva made it 2-2 with his first goal for Werder.
But as in the first round, the Bremeners also slept off in the second half. It was not played for two minutes when the hosts were already behind. Once again, it was Pléa who completed a nice attack by the Gladbachers for the renewed Borussen leadership.
Werder then tried to compensate again, but was no longer mandatory enough. Instead, small service made everything clear and ended his little gate flaut in good time in front of the two National League games against Italy. In injury time, however, the striker also saw yellow-red.
