Dreifinger Hess seventh at Hallen World Cup
The German athletes are only on site at the Hallen World Cup in China with a mini contingent. Dreifinger Max Heß cannot surprise at the start. The start in the pentathlon was swaying.
Dreifinger Max Hess was not able to surprise with a medal at the World Halls Championships in China. Eight years after silver in Portland, the Chemnitzer in Nanjing finished seventh under the hall roof.
At 17.03 meters, the 28-year-old remained well behind the width of 17.43 meters, with which he had won EM silver in the Netherlands two weeks ago. This would also have brought silver to the second of the world year’s best list at the World Championships.
European champion also wins at the World Championships
As a world champion, Hallen European champion Andy Dìaz Hernandez cheered. The Italian won the world year’s best of 17.80 meters. Dìaz won in front of the Chinese Yaming Zhu (17.33 meters) and the Brazilian Almir Dos Santos, who landed at 17.22 meters. The only German hall world champion was Charles Friedek in 1999.
The World Championships in China last until Sunday. The German Athletics Association is only represented with a small contingent in the title fights. Most of the DLV team around the Olympic champions Malaika Mihambo and Yemisi Ogunleye miss this World Cup a year with the outdoor world championships in Tokyo. The World Cup in Japan will take place from September 13th to 21st.
Nanjing had to wait a long time
In the pentathlon of the World Cup, Vanessa Grimm was the first German starter to get a good start. With 8.54 seconds she reached personal best over the 60 meters hurdles. After two disciplines, Grimm was in eighth place.
The title fights in Nanjing were originally intended to rise in 2020 and thus as usual in the annual change to the Hallen European Championship. But the World Cup had to be postponed several times. Now she is on the program in an odd year in an odd year and thus two weeks after the European Championship in Apeldoorn, Dutch.
