“Mega Happy”: Heditor Steinforth wins World Cup bronze
At the end of the Hallen World Cup in China, the German mini team cheers over a medal by all-rounder Till Steinforth. In the absence of Malaika Mihambo, an American surprises in the long jump.
All-fighters Till Steinforth won the bronze medal at the world’s world championships. The 22-year-old had to admit defeat only the Norwegian Sander Skotheim (6,475 points) and the Estonian Johannes Erm (6.437) in the title fights in Nanjing in the heptathlon with 6,275 points.
“I’m Mega Happy, it couldn’t have run much better,” said Steinforth, who had already won EM bronze in early March. “The last two weeks have been almost perfect.” Team colleague Tim Nowak became a World Cup seventh.
For the German Association, which was only a mini team in China, it was the only medal of these competitions. Unlike the European Championships under the hall roof two weeks ago in the Netherlands, Steinforth remained behind the German record. In Apeldoorn, the athlete from SV Halle with 6,388 points declined the indoor pest brand.
100 times 6 meters or higher
The day after the Swedish Olympic champion Armand Duplantis had jumped for the 100th times 6 meters or higher and celebrated his next title in the pole vault, Norwegian Jakob Ingigtsen again won gold. After his victory over 3,000 meters, the Olympic champion also won over 1,500 meters. As expected, the best nation was the United States, which finally won the two seasons over 4 x 400 meters.
It was not as far forward as for Steinforth went for Hochseriner Imke Onnen (Cologne). With 1.92 meters, she took sixth place in the victory of the Australian defending champion Nicola Olyslagers (1.97).
World Cup without top German stars
Most of the DLV team around the Olympic champions Malaika Mihambo (long jump) and Yemisi Ogunleye (shot put) omitted the hall event a year with the outdoor world championships in Tokyo. In the absence of Mihambo, the American Claire Bryant surprised with 6.96 meters in her victory in the long jump. Co-favorite Sarah Mitton from Canada won the title in the shot put competition without Ogunleye with 20.48 meters.
