Alexander Zverev in Miami in the round of 16

The tennis Olympic champion slowly gets going again. In Miami he only has a few problems at the beginning.

Alexander Zverev reached the round of 16 at the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami after initial difficulties. The Tennis Olympic champion of 2021 prevailed in Florida in his third round game against Australian Jordan Thompson 7: 5, 6: 4. Zverev (27) converted his second match ball after 1:27 hours.

Zverev tries to find back to old form in Florida. Most recently, the Hamburg-born in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Acapulco had collected bitter defeats and had also left the Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells at the start.

Zverev always feels very comfortable in Miami. “Miami is one of my favorite cities in the USA,” he said before the tournament. “I just love to be here.”

After the relaxed opening victory against the British Jacob Fearnley, Zverev initially struggled against Thompson. The world ranking second had to hand in his first service game and ran after a gap. But then the number one on the seed list increased, managed two breaks and got the first round after 47 minutes.

Zverev now had the game under control. In the second set, he immediately took the surcharge from the Australian and largely controlled victory.
