Suit scandal
Ski jumping boss: retrospectively World Cup gold for Wellinger
What happens to the World Cup results of Trondheim? First, the ski jumping racing director said that they existed despite fraud. Now a new situation has arisen.
Ski jumping Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger could subsequently declared the single world champion of Trondheim because of the Norwegian suit scandal. This was said by race director Sandro Pertile before the World Cup final in Planica. At the World Cup in Norway, the World Association FIS had excluded such drastic consequences.
“We didn’t know what happened on Saturday evening. You have to understand and understand the whole situation when this manipulation started. The decisions will then be very consistent,” said Pertile of the German Press Agency. Anonymously recorded and published videos have revealed how the Norwegians illegally manipulate suits in the presence of their coach Magnus Brevig.
Bronze possible for violinists
The now suspended Marius Lindvik and Johann André Forfang were disqualified for the big hill till after the videos were public. A week earlier, Lindvik had won the individual on the normal hill ahead of Andreas Wellinger. With a subsequent deletion of Lindvik’s result, Wellinger would get gold instead of silver. Karl Geiger would move to the bronze rank from fourth place.
In the suits of Lindvik and Forfang, a stiff band was sewn to enlarge the wing in the air. Both deny their knowledge. Norway’s sports director Jan-Erik Aalbu says that the manipulation was only a competition.
The FIS has commissioned an external commission to deal with the reappraisal. “First we need facts on the table,” said Pertile. The results are expected in summer. As long as the five jumpers and three trainers should remain suspended.
