Successful World Cup test
Handball women celebrate victory in Denmark
The German handball women deliver a strong performance in Denmark and reward themselves with an important sense of achievement.
Germany’s handball players celebrated the first sense of achievement this year on their way to the home World Cup and got a lot of confidence. The team of national coach Markus Gaugisch won in Aabenraa against the European Championship second with 29:26 (13:15) and showed a strong performance, especially after the break.
“Of course that feels good because it is also a reward for the team. We have come into play hard and worked out of it ourselves,” said Gaugisch and added: “We are now going apart with a positive feeling.”
The first duel on Wednesday in Hamburg lost the DHB selection with 31:33. Previously, there had been two narrow defeats against the Olympic second of France in March. For the German team, the preparation for the title fights from November 26th to December 14th in September continues with two international matches against the Netherlands.
Many mistakes and lack of concentration in the German game
In front of 2,700 spectators, the back room players Viola Leuchter and Alina Grijseels, each with seven goals, were the best throws for the DHB team, in which some errors took part after a concentrated start.
After a quarter of an hour, the Danishes used the four-goal lead (9: 5), to which Gaugisch reacted with the first break. “We need more bile and more depth in the back,” said the national coach loudly.
Only goalkeeper Katharina Filter once again presented himself as a reliable support in this phase and had a large part with six parades in the first half in the fact that the DHB selection came up to two goals until the break.
Increase after the change
The German team came out of the cabin with fresh vigor and after 40 minutes at 19:19 made the tie again. Both in the attack and in defense, there was a significant increase, for which the European sixth four minutes before the end was rewarded with a two-goal lead.
When the filter also parried a seven meter, the path to the long-awaited and ultimately cheered success was finally free for a top opponent. “It is mega that we did it. We worked on that for a long time. So it is good that it worked today,” said Leuchter.
