The Argentines Angel Di María and Leandro Paredes They were linked in recent days, by Italian media, of being involved in an investigation for illegal sports bets. Through their social networks, both denied being involved.
For this same cause, players such as Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Fagioli were already sanctioned, seventeen and seven months of suspension respectively. Italian justice reached new names from the analysis of the phones of these players, according to the newspaper Corriere Della Sera.
The first to pronounce was Di María, who published a statement on his social networks: “Before the journalistic versions I want to clarify that I never made illegal bets of any kind”.
Minutes later, Paredes also separated the subject with a similar message, flatly denying any participation in prohibited game practices.
According to the Italian media, none of the players investigated is accused of having manipulated football matches, since bets would have been made about other disciplines between December 2021 and October 2023.
In addition to that it was pointed out that those involved “did not do so to enrich themselves, but to occupy free time during concentrations.”

The investigation points to two illegal platforms managed by Tommaso de Giacomo and Patrick Fizzera, who would have been assisted by three administrators of a jewelry store in Milan, which functioned as a clandestine bank for transactions.
Although from the criminal point of view the infractions could be resolved with a fine of 250 euros, the disciplinary consequences within the sport could be significant.
Other names mentioned in the case are Alessandro Florenzi (Milan), Nicolo Zaniolo (Fiorentina), Mattia Perin and Weston McKennie (Juventus), Raoul Bellanova and Samuele Ricci (Torino), Cristian Buonaiuto (Padova), Matteo Cancellieri (Parma), Junior Firpo Giant.
In addition, there are at least ten people not directly related to sport also under investigation.
