Football: Report: Hansi Flick extends at Barça until 2027

According to a media report, coach Hansi Flick will extend his contract by another year at FC Barcelona. As the Spanish newspaper “Marca” reported, the former national coach should sign a new contract until 2027 at the end of the season. An agreement between the two parties has been made in the past few days. His current contract at the Spanish top club is dated to the end of June 2026.

The club wanted to do without an official proclamation during the season in order to further focus on national and international title opportunities. Barça, as the league leader of the Spanish top league, has the chance of the title triple as a cup finalist against arch-rival Real Madrid and as a semi-finalist of the Champions League.

Flick also convinces critics

Another reason for reluctance in terms of official proclamation, according to “Marca”, lies in the problems of the Catalans to comply with the league’s financial fair play. The requirements make it difficult for Barça to sign players and extend contracts.

Flick had taken over FC Barcelona last year as the successor to Xavi and himself convinced critics with his work and the good results. According to Hennes Weisweiler and Udo Lattek, the 60-year-old is the third German coach at FC Barcelona.
