Victory on the Wall of Huy: Pogacar wins Flèche Wallonne

After two second places that are unusual for him, Tadej Pogacar is back at the forefront. The world champion climbs up the most famous wall of cycling in the style of a champion.

World champion Tadej Pogacar has overcome his little dry spell and won the classic Flèche Wallonne confidently. The Slovenian cycling star prevailed at the final climb, the up to 19 percent steep wall of Huy, in front of the Frenchman Kevin Vauquelin and the British Thomas Pidcock. After 205.1 kilometers, German drivers played no role in the decision.

As usual, the decision was made in Huy, but Pogacar did not wait until shortly before the finish with his attack. At the steepest point, shortly after half of the 1.3 kilometer hill, the 26 -year -old competed – no competitor had grown in intensity.

Pogacar also favorite in Liège

At the Amstel Gold Race, Pogacar had to give up surprise winners of Mattias Skjelmosis at the start of the Ardennes classic. The winning of the rare triples with further victories in the flèche and Liège-Bastogne-Liège had also burst. Skjelmosis could not get in the way again today. The Dane crashed 40 kilometers before the finish line on the rain wet road and opened the race.

A week earlier at Paris-Roubaix, Pogacar had had to satisfy himself with the unusual second place. In Liège, the Slovenian will go to the demanding route as the top favorite on Sunday. Pogacar 2021 and 2024 won the oldest of the five cycling monuments.
