The output of Fernando Gago as coach of Mouthafter the painful defeat against River and the failure in the repechage of the Copa Libertadores, marked the beginning of a new chapter in the club with the appointment, momentarily, of Mariano Herrón As a new technical director, at least, until the end of the Opening 2025 tournament.
Amid the search for a final successor by the Football Council and Juan Román Riquelme, the person in charge of taking the reins interim will be Mariano Herrón, a man of trust and with extensive experience in this role.
Herrón, known as Riquelme’s right hand and man from the house, will be in command of the squad during the remainder of the Opening Tournament, this being the last date against Tigre as a visitor and the playoffs.
Its debut will be in the next confrontation against Tigre and will continue to direct in the playoffs if a new DT is not defined before. This will be his fourth stage as the club’s interim coach, after leading the team on previous occasions during 2023 and 2024.
The former mediocampist, who is also the DT of the reserve, is emerging as a natural choice for his proximity to the leadership and his extensive knowledge of the club. In its previous three cycles, Herrón recorded a total of eight games with four wins, two draws and two lossesleaving a positive impression on the environment.
For this new challenge, Herrón is expected to surround himself from his usual team, made up of Claudio Morel Rodríguez as a field assistant, Cristian Muñoz as archers coach and the possible incorporation of Walter Pico along with other ex -players of the inferiors.
