Paul Mescal spoke about the possibility of starring in another “Gladiator” movie

Paul Mescal spoke about the possibility of returning to Gladiator 3saying he would be “enormously willing” to star in the film.

Before the premiere of Gladiator 2the director Ridley Scott He told The Hollywood Reporter that plans for a third film were already underway.

“I prefer to start with Gladiator 3. There is already an idea”he said at the time.

Mescal, who plays Lucius in the just-released sequel, has now expressed interest in reprising his role.

“Yes, there is a lot of interest,” he told Variety. “I don’t think they are [24] years, but I have no idea when.”

What Gladiator 2 is about

The sequel stars Mescal as Lucius, son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus, the antagonist of the original film played by Joaquin Phoenix. Set years after 2000’s Gladiator (also directed by Scott), the sequel finds Lucius living as a young adult in the North African region of Numidia, where his mother sent him as a child. Events lead Lucius back to Rome as a gladiator, where he makes new enemies and reunites with his mother.

The supporting cast includes Pedro Pascal as Marcus Acacius, a Roman general who trained under Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe of Gladiator), Denzel Washington as Macrinus, a wealthy power broker in Rome who maintains a stable of gladiators for sport, and Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger like the twin emperors of Rome.

Gladiator 2 has performed well at the box office following its release, grossing $87 million in its opening weekend.

As for critical response, reviews have been mixed and positive, and the sequel currently has a 74% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, slightly lower than the score the original 2000 film starring Russell Crowe earned.
