In the dispute over cuts at VW, IG Metall is now getting serious: Warning strikes are scheduled to take place at the beginning of December.
There are warning strikes at VW at the beginning of December. The IG Metall collective bargaining committee decided this unanimously, the union said. After the unsuccessful collective bargaining round on Thursday, the aim was to increase the pressure on the company.
IG Metall negotiator Thorsten Gröger had already announced immediately after the collective bargaining talks that he would prepare for warning strikes after the peace obligation expired at the end of November. The tariff commission has now agreed to this. The union initially did not provide details about dates and affected locations.
Even after the third round of collective bargaining, Volkswagen is keeping the possibility of plant closures and mass layoffs open, Gröger criticized. Therefore, the pressure must now be increased. “We didn’t want this dispute, we even presented comprehensive concepts at the negotiating table that went to the limit of what was possible for us,” said Gröger. “Volkswagen has control over how long and hard the conflict has to be fought at the negotiating table.”
