Testing Night arrives, a day of awareness and prevention against HIV

According to a recent study, 45% of new HIV diagnoses are late. Saturday the 25th will be an opportunity to raise awareness and for all people to know their serological status.

In the country there are 140,000 people living with HIV and as a preventive measure against this problem, the Testing Night will be held this Saturday, January 25. It will be coordinated by the organization AHF Argentina (AIDS Healthcare Foundation) and will be an activity to be carried out in different parts of the country. They will be rapid HIV tests free, secure and confidential.

In the case of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, the initiative will take place from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., at Av. Corrientes at 1600, where AHF convenes together with the organizations Testeate Buenos Aires, Association of Peruvian Nurses in Argentina, Orgulloses, Mocha Celis, Loud, and the support of Commune 1 of CABA.

Alarming numbers of HIV infections

The number of affected comes from the latest epidemiological bulletin of the HIV addresspublished in December 2024. In addition, provinces such as Jujuy, Salta, La Rioja, San Luis and CABA have a higher incidence of HIV. At the country level, men are the ones with the highest number of new diagnoses in all age groups, particularly between 20 and 34 years old.

However, the data that most alerts specialists is that 45% of new diagnoses are late and that 13% does not know his diagnosis. Early detection of HIV is essential to guarantee access to timely treatments and to prevent new transmissions.

“New and innovative strategies are needed to reach the entire sexually active population, regardless of gender and age. We must eliminate the stigma related to HIV and some populations, due to the benefits of early diagnosis both for the person and also in terms of collective health,” he points out. Natalia Haag, Director of Prevention and Testing at AHF Argentina.
