Pandemic triggered a digitization push at Uniqa

This also applies to communication with customers. There is a transformation process not only in the insurance industry, which must now be designed accordingly.

Conversely, it is certainly not the case that digitization could replace personal contact with customers, but also with each other within the company. The collaboration suffered. That is why the approximately 6,000 employees in the Uniqa Tower in Vienna were brought back as quickly as possible. “What remains is a form of hybrid work, i.e. a mixture of home office and office,” says Humer.

Acute care from June

There was also a surge in demand for health insurance. “We dealt with this issue practically every day,” says Humer. In this segment, Uniqa was able to increase its premium income by five percent to 1.226 billion euros.

State director Alexander Schinnerl says the aim is to use this boost in the form of additional services related to private health insurance. From June, there should be the opportunity to offer acute care outside of the usual surgery hours for EUR 5.86 per month. The start is in Wels in cooperation with the St. Stephan private clinic there.

For many Austrians, the topic of private provision has gained in importance. This also includes preventive care in the event of illness. “No waiting times in the surgery and a doctor who takes more time, that’s becoming more and more important,” says Schinnerl. The company wants to pick up on this trend with appropriate offers. (hn)
